Gift to the Art Institute of Chicago: Roscoe Mitchell’s “The Third Decade”

This painting, “The Third Decade,” by founding Art Ensemble of Chicago (AEOC) member Roscoe Mitchell, was painted in 1968 and used as the cover of the AEOC’s 1985 ECM Records debut. The painting was in an exhibition earlier this year at Corbett vs. Dempsey in Chicago. The esteemed Art Institute of Chicago hoped to have it in their collection and the Foundation was inspired to gift it to them.
